The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

Just a poem I wrote just now. Thought I'd post it up.
*It's not about abuse*

Hit me again, so I can see
why it is you're hitting me
hit me when your heart I break
so I can learn from my mistake
hit me harder if you must,
but not too hard - my skin will bust
don't you see? It hurts - it stings
and what we have is not a thing

When you cry I only feel
pain enough to hope you heal
I know I didn't hit that hard,
you aren't bruised, you aren't scarred
I heard the smack, I know it hurt
the sound made me quite alert
but why do you act this way?
Why don't you watch the things you say?
I'm just trying to help, you know,
the error of your ways to show
I'd rather be beaten up than see
my problems are because of me
so forgive me, please, you didn't fall,
remember? Once, we had it all.

Very nice poem. The rhymes flow great and are very nicely chosen.

Great work!

Iulia,

I agree with Snacker. Your poem flows really well. I have to add too that I like how you gave both perspectives. A lot of poems are written from a "victim's" point of view, but it's not often you come acrossed one from the abuser.

Great job.
