Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

Basically what themesong would you use for the character(s) that you have created.
To start things off:
Ares Pyrrhus - "Blow Me Away" Breaking Benjamin
Ash Pyrrhus - "Burning Bright" Shinedown

Nope, don't think that way.

I did however write a story (the one presently before an editor), where the main character DOES have a favorite song. While the main character is a deadly assassin, it helped round out the character when I gave her a silly little tune that she really likes -
From 'Lessons Never Taught' by Roby Ward' wrote:
Ashaya's musical laugh filled the air for a moment, then she said, "Let me teach you a song."

"Is it the one that some man sang to you?"

"In a way. I learned it because I liked it. You want a lady that you can spend the rest of your life with, Waunier. If she does not like what you like, you could well find yourself not liking her."

The young man expected to hear an aria. Men tended to learn ballads that told an emotional story while ladies learned compositions deep with imagery. He instead heard a charming tale of a deer bounding from trouble until it bounds into the presence of a lady deer. He laughed heavily at the end, thanked Ashaya for the song, then admitted that he did not know if he could sing it to completion without laughing.

"Well, take my advice, Waunier, and find a song that you like. If you like that one you have been singing, fine."
While I will listen to music while I write, I do not use it to set the tone of characters, but of the mood of a scene.

Only one of my novel characters so far has an actual theme song. Nothing seems to fit my other characters well enough to be counted worthy:
Karra Ranelda - "Planxty Lady Wrixon" - Howard Baer
This is an instrumental Celtic composition from a CD I have entitiled "Celtic Mystique".

My novel characters usually have a favorite song which ends up being their themesong.
so anyway my MC for a recent plot of mine, Alex Mercer fits perfect to Animal i have become - by Three Days Grace.

Well if you remember Aida from Crystan Dawn of war, his main theme would have to be:
White and Nerdy by Weird Al Yankovic
Actually that is all I listened to with him.

Karasu from Cyberpink main theme was:
Spit it Out by Slipknot because he was a bad a##

Yeah, for RPG characters, I picked out a few:
Spencer (from Cyberpunk): "All That Remains" - 3
Jack Cyrus (from Cyberpunk): "Dance of Eternity" - Dream Theater
Derek Aedrin: "The Scientist" - Coldplay

I'm still figuring a theme for Ji. Smile
