Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I already posted about the book "Monster." Right now I am reading Sarah Palin's book, "Going Rogue." It is not telling me anything that I don't know -- people in government are stupid and really don't care about making your life better, unless your idea of better is being dominated by a powerful conglomerate. Anyway, I need to read some stuff by wanna-be writers, but it is Christmas and I am trying to be nice.

I'm reading 'Blink of an Eye' by Ted Dekker right now. I've come across one of his books a while ago and am a total fan of his work. He writes thrillers and no matter which book of him I read, he always pulled me into his stories. They are packed with adrenaline and action from the beginning to the end and it's really hard to actually put it away because you always want to know what's coming next. Most of his works involve some religion but even if you're not a believer or fan of religions the actual story does come through every time.

Check out his site if you want to know more about his books. http://www.teddekker.com

I'm currently reading an author (published) friends work and I hate to admit that the writing is mediocre at best. It's hard to stay with the plot which is unrealistic. The sex scenes of which is many are all the same and very boring but I continue on. This particular work is called 'Broken Promises Never Mend' by Allison Edwards.
