Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I was wondering whether anyone had ever admired someone so much so that they would want to write a biography on them? I did and that's how I got the idea for my novel because doing a straight forward biography would have been pointless. I have no idea what she was really like as a person and the time frame of when she was alive is completely alien to me too. The best I can do is develop an interpretation of her character, but even then it wouldn't necessarily be accurate.

The reason I changed my mind and decided to do a novel is that I don't suppose this interpretaion has to be accurate. It just needs to be belivable. Another reason for opting out of the biography is that there are already loads about her, which I will be reading closely in order to get a sense of her.

My basic reply is, No. I am not somebody that seeks to know all the sordid details of someone else. There are a number of people that interest me, but only because they had interests parallel with mine. I thus respect their lives and seek their connection with our shared paths of thought. As for learning about all their other aspects, along with love lifes and such, Nope.
