Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

but there's nowhere near enough activity Crying or Very sad

Need some active members Idea

Maybe send out a mass email every month detailing the new competitions, and update on new members and writings posted that you feel might interest people. Like a monthly newsletter basically, inactive members might be enticed back that way. Just an idea Smile

Yes we sent out a newsletter once and had in mind of doing that every month. But all of a sudden it wouldn't take the form and the graphics and everything we put in there anymore. So we stopped and looked for another way of getting to our members every month. Regardless to say that we couldn't come up with anything.

But yes I agree with you, Swami. Just a couple of days ago I told Kelly that we need some type of newsletter, also when there are no graphics involved. But we need to let our members know that we're still here. Still building up and creative!

This forum has much potential which is why its a shame there's little activity going on at one time. Even just monthly updates with latest challenges, the winners of last months challenges, good writings from people you think others should read and whatnot, good writing tips. Just to give that all important reminder that the forum is still here.

I don't know about newsletters. I get a lot of them from different forums and networking sites I've joined and very rarely do I actually read or even open any of them... But it could still remind people that may have signed up and forgotten about the site that we are still here, so who knows.

I have noticed however that the site's Myspace page hasn't even been logged into in months and doesn't have a growing friends list. I know, I know a lot of people look down their noses at Myspace, but there really isn't any better place for free marketing/networking. At the very least it wouldn't hurt to revamp the page and send out some friend request. Message me if you need or want any help with this.

I think that is a good idea Hydra. Any way to get the name out is still getting the name out.
