Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I challenge each and every one of you over the age of eighteen to get out and vote today, if you haven't done so already. People fought and died and marched and struggled just so you'd have the right to do this seemingly simple thing. People are still fighting, dying, marching, and struggling. The least you can do is take some time out of your day to go exercise this right... you'll even get a really cool sticker with a flag on it in the process. wink

I'm totally voting, been waiting for the longest time. Turned 18 in August and since then, this has been my greatest excitement.

Going to vote pretty soon but I've been told the school I vote at has people lined up in the streets. That's excitement!

Hon, I stood in line for SIX hours this weekend for the early voting down at my neighborhood library.

Cancel all you afternoon plans and take along whatever homework or reading you might have that needs to get done. You will be there awhile.

Did my usual: woke up, started coffe, got dressed, then left to walk across the street and vote while the coffe brewed. Well, the parking lot across the street was filled and I could see many people. I thus came back inside and drank my pot of coffee. After a little more than an hour, the initial rush was mostly over and I was awake, so I grabbed a book and went across the street. I did my thing.

If anyone asks, I voted for Quinlin so nobody can claim that I am a racist or a sexist (and you can decide for yourself whether I am lying).

Wasn't an option on the ballot here.

Our options for president were:

Obama
Bush... oops, I mean McCain
And Barr, the libertarian
Or of course 'write-in'... but really.

Oh, we had a number of options. Not Barr, as our libertarians put Ron Paul on the ballot instead (Barr was not libertarian enough). Nader was the most viable (meaning on the ballot in the most states, I believe 45 or so of the 50). Prohibitionist party, Socialism, a whole host of president wanna-bes.

Luckily, we had about 10 more things to vote for, so my vote could actually count for something (your vote is MUCH more important with local elections than national).

I thought Ron Paul announced he dropped out of the race months ago... Goofy, libertarians. cyclops

Yeah, the US Senate race was actually what really got me heated up to vote, but it really is the local stuff that's going to have the biggest impact on your life and your community.

I voted three weeks ago via Absentee Ballot... Since I am working in VA and am registered in FL.

So... now I wait for my little vote to get processed.

Those crazy Libertarians. :p On the ballot here in Maryland, aside from the main two, there was an independent, the green party, the libertarian and the constitution party.
