Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I can't make a decision worth anything Crying or Very sad

I need help, I've decided that I am going to make a story.
The names a very important. All my names are Greek, the reason they are important is because well they have something to describe about my characters. I have a character who was born in the darkness, at night, with no moon or stars, I want his name to reflect his cold personality. I have a character who is a transexual, so I want their name to be something just as perplexing as them. I have a female character who is a little lady and has a very rebellious side to her won't listen to a word the guys tell her, so I want her name to reflect that.
I have names, but I can't make a decision of which name.
Mind you even though I speak Greek, I am trying to make this quick...I am giving you rough translations of the names. I could get more complicated, but I don't want to.
So, I guess I'm asking....what names do you like? And what names fit the rough descriptions?

My Unisex names for the transexual:
Pyralis- Which means Fire in Greek
Rhodes- Which means Rose in Greek
Xenophon- Which means Strange Voice in Greek
Cameo- which means Shadow Portrait

My guy names for the guy born in the darkness:
Ajax- Which mean Of the Earth
Apollo- which means Destruction
Hades- which means Sightless
Isadore- which means gift of Isis
Jericho- which means Moon City
Melanion- which means Black
Morpheus- which means God of Dreams
Stravos- which means Cross
Tassos- which means Resurrection
Xander- which means Defender of Men
Xylander- which means Forest Man
Xylon- which means From the Forest

My girl names are:
Agalia- which means Bright Joy
Akantha- which means Thorn
Althea- which means Marsh Flower
Ambrosia- which means Immortal
Aradia- which means Goddess Of Witches
Bibiana- which means Alive
Bronte- which means Thunder
Calandra- which means Singing Bird
Chione- which means Snow Queen
Danae- which means She who Judges
Drea- which means Courageous
Euphemia- which means Well Spoken
Larissa- which means Cheerful
Persephone- which means Bringer of Destruction

The name is not important, but what you do with the character will make his/her name important.

Anyway -

Not Xenophone. It sounds so fake. It is a name for an alien protrayed by someone in a rubber suit. I like Rhodes. It is the only name that looks and sounds like a name, although Ralph or Rindy would be better (depends on the direction of the trans).

Again, none of your guy names are names. Some are, but have been used so much that they conjure pictures of comic-book characters. I looked at Stravos and thought that Steve would be a good name.

The girl names are not so bad. I would pick Akantha.

I like, Rhodes and Cameo. Unless it is a fantasy piece, Xander is the only male name, of the ones listed, I'd even consider using. Most of the female names are usable and so it is hard to pick the best, but I personally favor Danae.

Jericho - just because it is cool sounding.

Persephone - I like this name, it has a nice feel to it.

Hope some of this helps you. I wish you the best with your story.

This is suppose to be a unique supernatural and magical story.
And these are names, names they use in Greece.
I want my names to be Greek.

Ralph and Steve are English names...no Greek in there and they sound ugly.
Everyone is named Steve and Ralph.

Well if you think that Xenophone sounds like an alien chances are people think the transexual is an alien or looks like an alien. Why do you think its on my list?
Thank you for you help though. I appreciate it.

Thank you everybody for your help.
I really appreciate.

Cameo is a good name, I wish I was name Cameo.
