| There are many poems by many poets. There are many stories by millions of writers. There are a billion songs written by thousands of artists. But as the audience, what exactly makes you stop to read? | |

| I always read the blurbs before purchasing or reading a book. So, mainly it is subject that draws me in. I don't go a lot on title and I don't generally read reviews, but I do also have a few favorite authors who I read regularly and look for new releases from. | |

| I am not somebody that modern sales techniques work upon. I walk by all that stuff at the front of the store to stare at the packed shelves. I look for the odd book that it seems the book store did not really order, but somehow got thrown into their shipment. Every now and then I look through the really really discounted bin, because if everyone else is really not going to waste money on a book, I think it might have potential.
If a top seller is anywhere near decent, it gets given to me in some fashion. I read Harry Potter because some people on another web site began debating him (really seriously debating), so I asked a friend and borrowed the books from him. I read Eragon because our book club tried to get younger members (we were reading historic 'commentary' books). Overall, I don't stop and read. People stop and toss books at me, which I read (or try to read).

| Reviews bore me. It's just one person's opinion, which may be completely different to mine. So I don't tend to judge books by the reviews they get. I normally pick up a random book on a shelf, and read the blurb and/or first page to see if it looks interesting. Or if someone who I know has a simmilar taste in books to me read something and enjoyed it, then I might go out and buy it. And the moment, however, I'm just picking up books from authors I've liked 'cause I want to see what else they've done. | |

| I have to admit that titles sometimes grab me while browsing the aisles but mostly I go by subject. I'm not much of a non-fiction type so I avoid that section all together. If I find a non-fiction book in the discount area, I will read at least the jacket to see if it is something I might be interested in. Other than that I go in and browse almost all areas and spend an unbelievable amount of money. | |

| I think the complete package is important. There is a lot of crap being published these days and unfortunately the stuff we have to choose from is limited. Most of the good stuff is in the bargain bin.
I would first look at the title; was a good choice for title made compared to the blurb on the book jacket? If so maybe the content isn't at all that bad. Sometimes if after reading the blurb I find myself on the line with whether or not I want to spend my hard earned money on it I will scan my way through the first chapter and make my decision then.

| With books, it's the cover art. :P
With poems/Stories online, it's usually the summery. Or the title.

| The title more or less. I stopped when I see a good sounding title. | |

| for me its more about the subject matter which can be indicated by the title or if i know the author. As a result i spend alot of time skimming through books by my favorite authors and other random ones which always lead to me losing alot of time but always getting a good read. | |
