Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

Could I tempt you? Can I cause for you to step outside of your comfort circle? If not, then pass this message on by. But if you are still curious, then read on....

I would like to start something interesting. Something.... Goal oriented. The only way that you are going to make any money writing is to, well, write. Right? So I propose a 30 day challenge starting today (Sunday).

write and submit as many shorts, reviews, articles, whatever that you can in 30 days and see what happens. Set your own goal if you'd like, but shoot for something higher than what you may normally do. If not for the possible money that could be made by doing what you enjoy anyway, then do it for fun. Either way, just do it.

So, I will put my money where my mouth is and I will personally set myself a 30 day goal. Are you ready?

In 30 days, I will write and submit............ 100 writing pieces.
Wow... I had better get started, huh? LOL

Goal: 100 pieces

Day 1: 3 AC Articles - 97 left to go

I'm working to finish up the self-editing of my first book and get it off to my editor in the next thirty days (or less). So, I'm out.

Yes, I'm actually writing a series of books. Three of them I have in rough draft form and two more in outline. Plus, I have two other unrelated novels. One is unfinished and the other is also in the rough draft phase.

The series are dark fantasy. It's titled, The Infernal Empire.

The first book is titled, The Reluctant Prince. It opens in Heaven, but before the war and before the creation of the Earth and mankind and goes through until the creation of Hell.

The series' last book will end with the great flood.

The stories are mostly told from the view point of one of the Crown Princes of Hell (Belial) and his family and really get into their motivations for turning against Heaven. There is no clear good or bad with it. It is all gray, as they say.

How do you read these forums? With an online translator? Not too personally of a question I hope.

No, your English is perfectly understand able.

I ask because the books might be sold in ebook form, which will be a lot easier for people like you who live in other countries and don't want to pay a high shipping cost.

I just thought it would be very hard if you were using a translator to translate very long pieces.

That is the only reason I asked.

I currently have a minor case of Writer's block, so I'm in. Let's go for.... 30 pieces. One a day. That'll do me.

~Sanareth

Mind you, that's not to say I'll submit one every day. I'll probably go for a few days without any then post ten at once. I'm like that.

Sanareth,

That is completely acceptable in my opinion. I typically tend to write and write, then submit multiple pieces at the same time anyways.

I am up to around 40 pieces written, though still haven't submitted yet. I am waiting till I hit 50. LOL

Don't fret, just set a new goal. If you want to keep to writing you have to keep it all going. If you fail don't be afraid to try, try again. (Forgive the cliches')
