Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I'm Elodie, and by the looks of it, the oldest one on here Laughing i got an invite here, which was very kind, so thank you very much for that.

I write thriller cum love stories (not romances). I haven't been published as of yet, shrugs, because I find the querying part (which I only tried once) tediously boring and would rather just write my stories instead.
I have two finished novels, two others that are nearly finished -- I'm doing the last draft of one of them at the moment., and I also have outlines for three more novels. Well, that's me done, I think? Very Happy

Hello Elodie,

I don't think there are too many writers who actually enjoy the business side of publishing. So, you aren't alone there. But if it's more about just getting your stuff out their for readers and not making a ton of money there are plenty of ways you can do that, even more so it seems with erotica verses other genres. The internet is really changing the business.

Well welcome to Scribbles Elodie! So happy you could join us.

I personally don't find the querying part boring but overwhelming and frightful. I'm waiting on a reply now as a matter of fact and everyday I get excited and nervous when the mail has arrived. But yes the writing of the story is much better than the marketing. Can't wait to see you active on the boards, welcome again!

Welcome. I believe that I am the oldest male here. I have published books, but none by a company that is able to put them in stores (the big boys have the shelves bought out). I have thus had to travel to conventions and do my own promotion. Truthfully, reading what is on the shelves on books stores makes me NOT want to be published by the big boys, because I don't want to be associated with crap.

Anyway, this does seem to be a good sight. Look forward to conversing with you.

Hello everyone and thank you very much for the great welcome!

Yes, I guess overwhelming is the right word for the querying process. I just don't seem to be able to find the words to sell myself, as that's what querying actually feels like to me... prostituting myself for my art, sigh.

I don't really class myself as writing erotica, but I have no fear about describing a love scene in my stories. I love the French film genre, no, not porn ones, and so write my own work how I view them, gritty and down to earth.

Welcome Elodie. I know how you feel with your pimping yourself comment. I am shy so I would rather sell my story and not have to sell myself first. But, those are the waters we have to swim in.

Hi Joe and thank you very much for the welcome; I see that we're all new here anyway.
For myself, I'm not shy in any way, I just can't seem to get my stories across in the query kind of way, even though i think I have some good tales to tell. I guess practice makes perfect eh Wink
