The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

Warning about a publisher Empty
PostSubject: Warning about a publisher   Warning about a publisher Icon_minitimeJuly 3rd 2009, 10:32 am

I have stated elsewhere that I was seeking publication of my next book. One company that had been showing interest was Strategic Book Publishing and Eloquent Books. Well, today the following message was sent to me.
AEG Publishing wrote:
Our Joint Venture program gives you a 50% royalty and allows us to split the cost of production with you to produce a printed book. Your one time only fee of $895 includes ISBN, cover design, publishing, distribution, marketing and promotion. The only elements that this cost does not cover are illustrations and editing and editing is NOT mandatory for this offer. So,basically, for $895 you will hold your finished book in your hand, and we can start selling it together.
Well, my reply.

Well, I have heard this song and dance before. PublishAmerica would do those things for free. AuthorHouse and Dorrance and Xlibris will do the same for less. Botique Press, HAH! YOu are Vanity Press.

No, I am sorry. My present problem is that I have been published by places that don't care about quality, only churning out books. I work to edit and set a level of quality to my manuscript, then I have been published by places that print anything for a price. I have sold my books in spite of being associated with a papermill publisher, but I am looking to improve my image. Your company does not fit that criteria.

I have been to your website. I see that mostly you are publishing religious and contemporary belief drivel. Such is not my genre, so I doubt you will be concerned with my present manuscript or future ones.

I have tried to purchase books from your website. It is a shoddy presentation delivering almost no information to someone scanning for literature. When I did purchase a book, there was no method to return to pick another one. I received the implication that you only expected someone to purchase ONE book, at best. Not a good representation of what you expect for sales. I did purchase two books using Amazon, although with this email I am very worried about the quality of what I paid for.

I am thus reluctant to continue dealing with your company at this time.
I leave each of you to your own decision, but I must say that I do not reccommend this company.
