Look Back
When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.
One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

| Greetings! I am Teele; amateur writer, musician, and computer geek. I've been hanging out on another forum recently, and one of my friends there (Bick) invited me over here to share the fun! So, here I am! In the area of writing, I write fantasy. I've crafted my own world called Crystan, in which I play constantly. I have a (sort of) finished novel based in it, but it was written over the course of years as my writing style and skill were evolving, so its rather uneven.. I'm working on a better Crystan novel right now, but it, too, needs a bit of work. In reading, I like various sci-fi and fantasy; Tolkien is my idol and model; I like Star Wars and Trek, Timothy Zahn is my favorite sci-fi writer. In music, I like art. Any band or ensemble that can play there instruments in a skillful and aesthetically pleasing fashion will get my attention. Within those criteria my tastes are very eclectic. Pink Floyd is definitely up on my favorites list (love Gilmour's guitar playing), along with a lot of other classic rock. New stuff, it really depends. Country bores me, rap annoys me. I like classical, Celtic, and world music as well. In computers, I like to tinker. I build Web pages, program apps, and configure databases. I'm taking a Bachelor of Science in Computing and Information Systems over the Internet through a university in Alberta. I support the Open Source movement, Unix and Linux, and hackerdom as a whole. So yeah! That's me in a nutshell! Looking forward to meeting you all! | |

Ha! Actually, I kinda just used a figure of speech there! Though I have adapted some of Crystan into a D&D campaign setting, and I did start building a Crystan game written in Java once. It didn't make it far, but I'll probably do something like it again....when I get a development team (i.e another programmer or two, some artists, an accountant, various other technical and managerial staff, etc....or hey! Maybe I'll just make it an Open Source project!!! ) And yes, you'll probably see a good bit of my work before it goes into the books! I really need to get back into my novels... | |
