Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I was wondering if there was a chance of uploading audio files in the future so that members can read their poetry or stories.

A few years ago before the Yahoo Chats turned into what they are today, I enjoyed the open medium that the microphone provided. Hearing poetry read by people who were passionate about their words was very enchanting.

I honestly don't know. It sounds like a good idea, but since I'm on dial up I'd be unable to hear or moderate any poetry posted this way.

It does sound like a good idea. We were discussing this before, since we have a song forum. But we don't know yet. It might slow down the forum or maybe some of our scribblers wouldn't even be able to hear it or get access to the site at all because of their connection. It is still a point on our 'FIFS (Future Ideas For Scribbles)'-list though.

I don't think it would keep anyone from being able to access the site, but I'd like to know if it would effect the whole site or just the threads the files are posted in and I'd ask for there to be a warning of some sort on the threads that have such a file attached so that I'd know to not even bother trying to open them.

We don't know yet Hydra. We just thought about it, but if it's gonna happen, well nobody knows. But if it would, we would probably announce it in a newsletter, so everyone knows it.

This is a great idea unfortunately it will require a lot of work on the part of everyone involved.

First the writer will need some type of recording device software and the computer savvy to use it.

After you've recorded your work you want to share it but our forum doesn't support attachments. Maybe in the future but as of now it isn't happening. Right now you can link to media outlets such as 'Youtube' or 'Dailymotion'.

But if you don't use either of these and still want to add audio you will need to find a free host. This is where you can upload your file and link us so we can have a listen.

Links and audio shouldn't slow down the forum. There will however be a few rules set in place for such things as we don't want members continuously posting audio links that can possibly drag members away from Scribbles and into other sites.

If this is a serious inquiry I would suggest starting a poll and seeing how many others are interested if the response is good then we will have a go at it.

By the way for those who are interested and in need of a recording device, get it free at Audacity, after which you will also need to join a host that you can link to. I've heard MediaFire has a free hosting program that is second to none.
