The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

I am having one of those days where I wonder what is the point of it all. What does it matter if I continue to write, will it ever be read? By read I mean will it be read by just more then my family? Will it even been read by them? I know my husband and my sister support my dream, I have no doubt about that, and I also know writing is something I need to do, not something I have to do. Writing to me is like breathing, whereas to others it might be just a hobby. Yet, today I feel like what is the point of writing and I'm wondering if other writers -- like myself -- have these types of days? Question

("...to be honest I don't know how good a writer you are kellycakes, you always focus on elsewhere, where you want to be a writer perhaps, but these readers just see your posts here instead, no don't get me wrong, they're not bad posts either, normal posts just chatting in first person, with no narration, no dialog, nor anything that would tell the reader that you really won that nananowhere prize for forum contempt..." mentioned the goblin, adding "...look, if you don't turn your posts around your books won't get a look in, because you might not take your posts on the level of your books thinking you can short change the forum goer like this, but your readers do want to know how you write by what you post, moreover, a writer without imaginative posts just falls by the wayside today, where the slogan for now is to books via posts...")

First, thanks to fleamailman for remembering this post was here. Sorry, Kellycakes, but I missed it when you first posted.

Now, the answer depends on why you are writing. If it is to be rich and famous, you might as well stop now.

I could state my own reasons for writing, but there is no reason for that. If you cannot find it in yourself to write, let us know what you do enjoy Kellycakes. If you like to fish, come here and tell us about your fishing trips. If you like to get on a pogo stick and hop around your neighborhood, tell us about that. If you don't want to write, that is okay. No pressure.
