Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

Hey hey hey Skwerly, nice to see you again, and it's wonderful to know that people are still checking in every now and then. I have put up a new prompt, the widgets we have to help us writers with ideas has collapsed so we have to manually enter ideas, which is wonderful, just time consuming sometimes. Enjoy and hope to hear from you again soon.

I do too. I miss those days where this forum was filled with people sharing their work with us and actually participating in what was going on here. Good ol' days.

Cool thanks, sent a request! I mean though, does this forum have a FB page that I could "like" or whatever? I'll do a quick search haha.

I love networking with other writers. If we don't scratch each others' backs, who will? Very Happy

Received and accepted - thanks! I have my own forum that's gone deader than a zombie on Tuesday and so I know how it goes. It's not nearly as cool as this forum though.

Whoa...Uh... WHAT? I didn't know we had a Facebook page. Not that I do anything on Facebook, but I do have a Facebook page. I would say more, but I really don't do anything on Facebook. My children message me occasionally instead of calling.

Sorry to hear about your forum, Skwerly and thanks for the compliment. I do wish this forum would pick up some more active members though.

Terish, Kelly once announced the Scribbles facebook page in the news section if I'm not mistaken.

Edit: It wasn't in the News section, it was in the Scibbles Cafe. https://scribbles.forumotion.com/t952-do-you-have-a-facebook-page?highlight=facebook

Yes, and I said to that the same thing I say now, I basically avoid Facebook. The actual MAIN reason is however that they do not give me space to write. I consider it a chat forum, and I don't chat. I will ramble, and I don't keep things simple. I did like MySpace, as I could write what I pleased. Facebook forces me to boil things down, and that just causes me to go elsewhere.

I know what you mean, it doesn't give you a lot of space to write in your status box, it does give you the option to make notes though, where you could write what you want to write. By doing that, it does get published to the wall as well and for your friends to read.

I have seen some massively long comments but yea, it's mostly a "networking" site so if you write articles (like I do) or want to meet other writers it can be a fun place to hang out.

Also, I've reconnected with TONS of childhood friends that I 100% would never have heard from again, until the day I died, were it not for the Internet. It really is a powerful tool! Smile

I will agree with the old friends bit. I have contact with a number of high school and college friends that would have never happened with snail mail. Still, if we have something to say, it is by phone. Facebook is mostly just a post-it note type of thing.

Some folks do little writing prompts on FB but they get massive amounts of replies, and I'm not quite ready to see my Inbox dominated like that yet lol.
