Monthly Writing Prompt
For this month's writing prompt write a scene using the following sentence to start;

The streets were deserted. Where was everyone? Where had they all gone?

Writing Tip
Our monthly writing tips are written by our very own TerishD. You can read more in Terish's Blog located in "The Abstractions" area of the forum.

Look Back

When not able to write ahead, it helps to look back. In my case I had written a paragraph ahead of the story. What I needed to do was add a section of exposition (talking) presenting some facts. In going back, I realized that I could insert a section where a 'tour' of the surroundings could be done. This allowed for character interaction, story development, and other things that enabled me to present the facts in an entertaining manner.

One should not face a writer's block with the mentality of bursting through it. I have found in my own experience that a writer's block is usually due to my mind indicating that it has a problem in 'channeling' the story. One reason might be a re-imagining of certain story points. Another reason however is that there is a problem in where you are at in the story, so you need to look back and find out the problem with the 'journey' that prevents the tale from advancing.

Some use pencil, some use pen, some use paint brush. What about you, what do you use most? Why is it your favorite?

I mostly use my computer for writing and even when I paint I normally scan it onto disk or photograph it and then toy with it in the paint program.

This is a hard question:

When I draw I only use pencils because I just think that that looks the best. If I'm not typing poems or short stories on my laptop I use a pen to write them down. I like a camera because it is a implement that holds what ever happens in a picture. And I often use a paint program for my pictures to just make something cool out of it.

So I don't really know which one of them is my favorite.

I use a pen to start anything I am writing, then move it to the computer to finish it up.

Mine is the pencil, that way I can edit, edit and edit some more. Once I'm happy with the first few edits I'll type it up. I sketch with a pencil, sometimes write. Other than that it feels like I'm always at my notebook, typing.

I use a pen. I'm boring. It has to be blue ink, or else.

Pencil, either colored or graphite, when I draw, but I use either a black pen or my laptop when I'm writing.

for writing I only use computer... writing by hand is no use, I can't read my own writing afterwards.

for drawing, I like pens and I like using 2or 3 colours at the most. I also like watercolours and those waxy crayons, oh, and pencils too.

I love my camera, it goes everywhere with me with spare batteries and I love taking pictures. I post them in my hotmail space thing (well, the ones I like) but I can't do much with them as I don't have that photoshop thing (and I suppose that lack of time is also a factor). I once managed to add text to a picture and save it but I can't remember how I did it..

I use the computer for most stuff because its easier. I carry a notebook around with me in case there are ideas forming in my head.

I said 'other' on the poll because 'keyboard' wasn't an option. Very Happy Most of my creative juices flow into the keys, which then are transmitted by bitstream to the hard drive of my computer. I rarely (never) write by hand unless I have to.

Like Teele I also never write by hand. If I have to, I use pen, but otherwise I always type stuff out. Unfortunetly due to lack of practice, my handwriting is horrible. :p

I'd have to go along with the whole keyboard and computer thing here.

Writing, I do my best work on the computer. My ideas flow out so much better and it's easier to go back after letting it all flow out to edit it and move the sentences around.

My hands can't handle a pencil, which is odd since I always have a large amount of them in my pencil/pen holder, but I don't use them. Pencil just doesn't work for me (Makes my hand cramp.), and I use pen for everything else, but that everything else is school work and just these past 6 weeks I've used half a container of white out because I hate pencil so much.

Then that goes for my art as well. I do use pencil once on a while, when I need something a bit more tangible. I've got my prismacolor colored pencils and my prismacolor markers, and then I have my paints and coal but those aren't as easy to use as the computer, where is that undo button in real life? I can't have any many color choices as I do on PSP8.

When I'm on the computer I rather type my work out then right it.
But when I'm not on or near a computer I like my trusty old pen.
